The British Film Collectors Convention (BFCC) If you are interested in collecting or making movies there is no better place to track down cine cameras, splicers, editors, projectors etc. than the British Film Collectors Convention. The conventions are held twice per annum at the Ealing Town Hall in London. Super 8 has been the mainstay of the convention since its inception and this is still largely the case, although we now enjoy 35mm shows as well as the long established 16mm shows. More recently 70mm has even made a couple of appearances. We use a 24ft wide cinemascope screen and this has to be seen to be believed - Super 8 really can work even at this magnification. THX Ultra sound has been a recent addition to the BFCC's and the wonderful modern 8mm prints have benefited from this by the utilization of pulse synchronized THX multi-channel digital sound from disc."
The Dearnn Open Days Derann have beeen hosting their shop Open Days for over 23 years now and in this time we have certainly seen some changes. Initially these special events were hosted to meet our customers and promote the Cine hobby in general and essentially, things have stayed the same. The doors open at 9:30 and the customers are greeted with the smell of fresh coffee available all day along with a selection of light refreshments. It is advised to get here early as people usually head straight to the second hand section in search of that illusive bargain. An impressive selection of both Super 8 and 16mm are available throughout the day as well as numerous spares and accessories. Customers are invited to bring any items they may have for sale. These can be booked in at either the Bring & Buy stall or the Auction stall. The auction normally starts midday and allows you the chance to bid, and hopefully walk away with some real gems. The auction itself is held in our custom built cinema holding an impressive 70 people. The screen is 7`x 15` and is surounded by proscenium lights and motorized curtains. Throughout the day you can watch a selection of three film shows, including glorious Cinema scope. The films themselves are shown through 2 x Elmo GS1200 Zenon with 1:0 longthrow lenses with the overall quality being as good as we can possibly get. All in all the Derann Open Day is a great day out with the possibility of picking up a reel bargain or alternativly to just sit back, soak up the atmosphere and talk to like minded people about the hobby which you love.
